Additional areas of preference in pharmaceutics include pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), drug formulation, drug delivery, and innovative bioengineering and 3D printing technologies. Candidates applying their expertise to disease models that are complementary to existing expertise in the region will be considered with the goal of creating synergy and adding new research capabilities. In addition, candidates working in disease models that represent disparities in our majority Hispanic population including diabetes and various forms of cancer would be highly competitive. Successful candidates will be talented faculty members who will collaborate in teams to cultivate and embrace excellence in teaching, research, and service in a predominantly Mexican-American community. This position represents unique opportunities for an outstanding individual to be a part of shaping/delivering an integrated curriculum and advancing scholarship in the pharmaceutical sciences in the Pharmacy School at UTEP, a research-intensive university. Appointment is commensurate with the applicant's history of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and leadership. The start-up package is negotiable, and the appointment is expected to begin Spring or Fall 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The recruited faculty member will: (1) demonstrate scholarly activity as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals; (2) develop collaborations with established graduate programs at UTEP and neighboring institutions; (3) mentor junior faculty members (for the Associate Professor rank); (4) develop and maintain a sustainable and extramurally-funded research program; (5) advance teaching and research skills through faculty development opportunities; (6) provide leadership through university, professional, scientific and/or community service; (7) work in teams to implement and deliver an integrated foundational pharmaceutical sciences curriculum using innovative teaching models that connect science to practice; (8) communicate well across diverse faculty disciplines and student populations; (9) contribute to the Accreditation Council for Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) accreditation process; and (10) engage and mentor a culturally diverse Doctor of Pharmacy student body in research experiences.

Job Requirements:
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in pharmacology/pharmaceutical sciences with an emphasis on the expertise areas listed in the Position Description, or a doctoral degree in a related field from an accredited institution, with documented evidence of:
  • Success in collaborative scholarship, external funding, and/or publications;
  • Evidence of successful teaching in the pharmaceutical sciences or related fields in a higher education institution;
  • Ability to work effectively as a team with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Involvement of students in research and/or publication opportunities;
  • Service in their discipline/profession and at the university; and
  • Mentoring of junior faculty (for the Associate Professor rank).

Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of associate professor include an extensive and continuing body of research published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Applicants eligible for the associate professor rank may be considered for leadership opportunities that are available or might become available within the School of Pharmacy.

Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a postdoctoral experience and/or have experience in a U.S.-accredited school/college of pharmacy.

Additional Information:
The initial salary is competitive, based on qualifications and experience, and comes with excellent fringe benefits.

Hiring decisions are based on budget approval.
